This page is dedicated to answering all of your questions about the Working Out the Kinks Submit Your Story Competition! If you are interested in collaborating with the Producers and Writers of Working Out the Kinks, watch this video and read all submission instructions and FAQ's below!
(SUBMISSION DEADLINE -Friday, March 31st 2016 at 11:59pm PT):
*Please note, you can send video OR written submissions (see details for HOW to submit below). If you choose to submit a video, please upload your video to YouTube and email us the video link. If you send a video submission, you do not need to write anything about your experience as the video will replace that step, but you will still need to follow all instructions below:
1. Please make your email subject: (YOUR NAME), WOK Episode Submission
2. Please attach a Word or .PDF document to the email, save the document as: (YOUR NAME), WOK Episode Submission
This will allow us to easily locate your file. If you submit a video, please send a YouTube unlisted video link with the title of the video being (YOUR NAME), WOK Episode Submission. To save a video as unlisted, you must select the "Unlisted" option on the YouTube upload video window prior to uploading your video onto YouTube. This will ensure that the only people who can view the video are those with the link.
3. In the body of the email please give us a brief introduction about who you are, what you do and what excites you about this project.
4. Remember your story can be funny, serious or a combination of the two. The writers and producers will thoroughly view all submissions and contact the winner(s) in February.
**Depending on the number of submissions, and selected winner(s), your story may appear in Season II of 'Working Out the Kinks.' We look forward to hearing from you and working with you! Happy Writing! Any questions? Be sure to read the FAQs below and if you still can't find the answer to your question, email us at
'Submit Your Story' Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What's this competition for/about? The Working Out the Kinks Producing and Writing team is taking video OR written submissions from our viewers to collaborate with us in writing episode #5 and if we have more than one winner, we will collaborate with them in writing an episode for season II.
How will winners be chosen? We will choose winners based upon how the story fits our sitcom with a kinky twist vision. Compelling and interesting stories will be considered and though we are looking for something with a comedic twist, we are open to more serious stories as well.
Examples of interesting story subject matter:
1. How your natural/relaxed hair affected a relationship.
2. Natural vs. relaxed vs. protective natural styles in the workplace.
3. Your experiences with strangers, family and friends wanting to know more about your hair
4. People touching, petting, stroking, illegally combing your hair etc.
your Have fun and feel free to be creative in how you tell us your story but remember that we want to know real life experiences!
Can I submit alongside one of my friends/family members if something happened to both of us at the same time? Absolutely! Please feel free to do that if it's real and that really happened, we want to know about it.
No, this competition is for Can I make up a story?real life experiences that we will then adapt as necessary alongside the winner(s).
Since we are going to adapt the story according to the characters we have and the already established Will my story be changed?story line, it is highly possible we will have to adapt it/make changes as necessary.
Will credit be given to me for co-writing/inspiring an episode? Yes! If your submission is chosen, that means we will automatically be giving you credit as one of the writers for the episode you co-write with our team.
It How long will it take for me to find out if I've been chosen?depends on the number of submissions we have, we will definitely make our choice(s) in February but the date will not be released until after the submission deadline of January 31st at 11:59pm PT.
If I choose to write for my submission instead of doing a video, does that mean I will have less of a chance for being chosen? No way! Good content is good content whether it's a video or written!
Although we would love to be able to do this one day, at this time we are in the midst of preparing for our Crowdfunding Will I be compensated if my story/idea is used for an episode?campagin. The funds raised and any other funds donated will be used towards production costs and marketing, so at this time there is not compensation involved. There are opportunities to be compensated by joining the Crowdfunding team. Please email us at: and include "Interested in joining crowdfunding team" in the subject line. You will be contacted with further details.
If my story/idea is chosen, does that mean I will I be part of the writing team for subsequent episodes? There is a different process for joining the team as a writer and those positions are not currently open, however, we are absolutely open to growth so if the opportunity presents itself and moving forward we are looking for more writers, the writers of the submissions will definitely be first on the list.
If I'm not chosen does that mean my content isn't "good"? Nope! Not being chosen is not a reflection on how good your content is by itself, it's all about whether it fits into the 'Working Out the Kinks' vision?
